Leonard boxes are made of a firebroad, resealable and neutral cardboard, thanks to a string of natural cotton.
The fiberboard used is composed solely of chemical pulp (without lignin) with a neutral pH between 7 and 9.
Density board is due to a specific lamination of the layers and its fiber content which gives the material its exceptional resistance to tearing.

The boxes are generally made from a single sheet of cardboard and mounted with rivets or staples.
The natural cotton string is attached to the box by incision and a neutral paper patch.
It is this manufacturing, this neutrality that makes Leonard boxes so conducive to be use by archive services for the classification of fragile documents.

It has three drawstrings, two on the widest side and one on the smallest.
